Graduate Admissions

Applicants to the PhD or MA programs must apply both to the UW-Madison Graduate School and to the Slavic Department, and acceptance is contingent on admission by both. Please see the information and instructions below.

Send the following items to the Slavic Department:
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. *International academic records must be in the original language accompanied by an official English translation.* Documents must be issued by the school with the official seal/stamp and an official signature.
  • Statement of purpose
  • Writing sample (preferably in English about literature) of 15-25 pp. in length

Applications for admission to the graduate program in Russian literature can be received at any time, but only complete applications received by January 2 will be considered for fellowships for the following fall semester.
