Undergraduate Programs

The Slavic Department at UW-Madison has the following majors available for undergraduates:

• Major in Russian: Language and Literature
• Major in Russian: Language and Civilization
• Major in Polish: Language and Culture

In addition, the following programs of language, literature, and cultural study are available:

• Czech Language and Culture
• Serbo-Croatian Language and Culture
• Literature in translation
• Russian Flagship Program

The Slavic Department offers several scholarships, prizes, and awards to our language students and majors. Examples include:

• November Fund Prize for Czech Study
• Michael and Emily Lapinski Undergraduate Scholarship for Polish Study
• Edward I. Zawacki Award for Polish Study
• J.T. Shaw Prize for Russian Study
• FLAS Fellowships for language study awarded through CREECA

Other related programs are available in collaboration with or independently of the Slavic Department:

• Area Studies Certificate in Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies (REECAS)
• A major in Russian or Polish from the Slavic Department is an excellent compliment to a second major in related programs such as Folklore, Jewish Studies, and Women's Studies.
