The Slavic Department at UW-Madison has the following majors available for undergraduates:
- Major in Russian: Language and Literature
- Major in Russian: Language and Civilization
- Major in Polish: Language and Culture
In addition, the following programs of language, literature, and cultural study are available:
- Czech Language and Culture
- Serbo-Croatian Language and Culture
- Literature in translation
- Russian Flagship Program
The Slavic Department offers several scholarships, prizes, and awards to our language students and majors. Examples include:
- November Fund Prize for Czech Study
- Michael and Emily Lapinski Undergraduate Scholarship for Polish Study
- Edward I. Zawacki Award for Polish Study
- J.T. Shaw Prize for Russian Study
- FLAS Fellowships for language study awarded through CREECA
Other related programs are available in collaboration with or independently of the Slavic Department:
- Area Studies Certificate in Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies (REECAS)
- A major in Russian or Polish from the Slavic Department is an excellent compliment to a second major in related programs such as Folklore, Jewish Studies, and Women's Studies. It is often also taken as a second major together with Business, Education, Psychology, Anthropology, and many other programs. Contact us to speak with our undergraduate advisor.
