Russian Language and Culture

Cathedral of the Savior on the Blood, St. PetersburgThe Department of Slavic Languages and Literature offers a comprehensive series of Russian language courses, including advanced courses in Russian literature and culture. In the summer, the Department offers Intensive Russian language classes at the first-, second- and third-year levels.

The Department offers majors in Russian for undergraduate students, as well an MA/PhD in Slavic Languages and Literature and PhD Minor in Russian for graduate students.

The UW-Madison Russian Flagship Center offers a rigorous undergraduate program in Russian language and culture that aims to enable highly-motivated undergraduate students of all majors to achieve a Superior (professional) level of proficiency in Russian.

Slavic Department faculty also teach a number of Russian literature in translation courses, in which all coursework is presented in English.
